SWAG #19 – EXETER – Saturday 5th April

SPONSORED BY

The next SWAG meet takes place on Saturday 5th April in Exeter. This is the second time we’ve held an event in South Devon, following the successful meet held there last year.

Tickets go on sale on Sunday 9th March, priced at £10 for adults (accompanied children are free, but we just need to know how many you’re bringing) and will be available to order via the SWAG web site.

All the information you need in the run-up to this event should be found in this email. It’s possible you may have other questions, however. In that case you can ask these over on the SWAG Facebook group or drop us an email at swag AT southwestamiga.org.uk.

The Venue and ParkingThe event runs from 10:00am – 8:00pm and is held at the Clyst St Mary Village Hall, Clyst St Mary, Exeter, EX5 1AA. The Hall is just a short drive off of junction 30 of the M5 and has masses of on-site parking.

If you’re getting to the venue from the M4…

Once you come off the motorway you’ll come down the Sidmouth Road and you’ll get to a roundabout. Go over this and you’ll be on the A3052. As soon as you’re on the other side of the roundabout look out for a sign in front of you on the left-hand side displaying the name “RYDON”. You need to take a left just before that sign and then an immediate right to go up the driveway to the venue. See below screen grab.

If you miss the turning there is a housing estate on the left-hand-side just past this entrance where you can turn around.

What Does Your Ticket Price Cover?Your ticket prices covers your contribution to the hire of the venue, (thank you!) plus tea, coffee, soft drinks, crisps and chocolate biscuits. Please help yourselves!

There is a village Londis shop with an excellent bakery only 2 minutes walk away. You are also welcome to bring food with you.
Upgrade Your Ticket! We want you to bring your Amiga hardware along to set up, show off or troubleshoot on the day. Our Chipping Sodbury events are packed full of Amiga kit with users spending their time upgrading, repairing, tweaking, coding, creating music, graphics or playing games and demos.

If you decide to purchase a “visitor” ticket and then decide you’d like to bring your Amiga set up then drop us an email at swag AT southwestamiga.org.uk and we’ll allocate you a table if there are any still available. Don’t be shy. We want to see your kit!
Free Amiga Re-Capping ServiceZeb and Scott will be offering a free Amiga re-capping service which will be running throughout the day. You will need to purchase caps prior to the event and bring them along with you.

Stockists of capacitors we recommend are RetroPassion (search for “capacitor kit” once on the site) and Amiga Spirit (once on the site detail what machine you need a cap kit for via the contact form)

Please note that Zeb and Scott will ONLY work on your Amiga motherboards if they have been completely removed from their cases. You will need to do this before you hand your motherboard over to them for repair.

As the re-capping service is free, there will be a tip jar at the event where you can drop in cash and notes as a little thank you for their efforts.
Buy and Sell StageIf you have Amiga or general retro kit you want to sell then please bring it along to the event and put it on the Buy and Sell stage.

We’ll have a pile of sales forms available. All you need to do is take one, detail what it is you’re selling, the price you’re asking for and your name. Put this form on your item and if anyone attending the event wants to buy what you’re selling they can track you down, so don’t forget to wear your name badge! You can pick up some absolute bargains this way.

All we ask is that, if at the end of the day you have unsold kit, please take it home with you. We don’t have the space to take home unwanted items. Thank you!
Keeping the Venue TidyPlease do your best at keeping the venue tidy. We have to not only ensure the venue floor and kitchen are clean before we leave, but we also have to take all our rubbish and recycling home with us.

To make this task easier, please use the recycling bins laid out in the kitchen and ensure your cardboard, cans, plastic etc. are placed in the correct containers.

If you can also ensure the kitchen is kept tidy, this would be a massive help.

Thank you!
Our Next EventFollowing our Exeter meet, our next event is our annual Workbench planned for October. This will be held at Dodington Parish Hall, Chipping Sodbury. Date TBC.

Whichever meet you attend, we look forward to seeing you there! The SWAG committee (Dave, Steve, Derek, Gil, Zeb, Scott Dan and Rob)

ZZap Live 2025 – 17th and 18th May

Over the last few years we have been supporting many events, however last year we did produce some of the best Amiga lineups for a long time, especially at Zzap Live, this year we were approached once again if we would support the event in May. However, some changes and first one is that it will be a TWO day event (Sat and Sun) and we would prefer it if you would be there on Friday to help with the setup.

If you are interested in helping with this then we will support you (except Hotel fees), you will receive access to the entire event, let us know what you might bring and we will make a list. We were offered a smaller room nearby but if numbers are above say 6, then we could be in the room that we were offered last year (depending on Chris plans).

If you’re Amiga trader, and want to set up a table at the event, then please either let myself know or Chris himself. We will try and see if we can find a spot for you.

Thank you
Dave R

Workbench schedule!

We’ve a packed schedule for this coming weekend, and we owe a massive thank you to everyone kindly volunteering their time to speak to us all.

During the below schedule we’ll also have our Dynablaster tournament running (thanks Gil Ashby) and we’ll be coming around taking your pennies in exchange for raffle tickets for our draw later in the day.

You’ll also be able to buy various goodies at the Amiga Addict Magazine stand and see the A600gs on show.

If you’re staying into the evening you may want to join some of your fellow attendees in what has become a regular part of a SWAG meet – a wander to the local takeaway for food before bringing it back to the venue to eat. It’s a great opportunity to socialise and catch up with other visitors.

Finally, I should mention that since our last Chipping Sodbury event a new Co-Op has opened a couple of minutes walk from the venue. If you’re craving something that’s not on the buffet then pay it a visit.

The rough schedule is as follows…

10:00 – Set-up

11:00 – Welcome announcement – Tournament and raffle info plus run through of schedule

12:00 – Buffet Lunch

12:30 – David Pleasance – New Book Progress with Q&A

13:15 – Yawning Angel – AMOS Talk with Q&A

14:00 – Nick Veitch – Amiga Format Q&A with Daniel Rolfe

14:45 – Zeb Elwood – Amiga DOS Tips and Tricks

17:00 – Raffle Draw and Tournament Winner Prize Handouts

18:00 – Takeaway visit (relax, chat and eat)

See you Saturday!
